NextFeed

NextFeed is the largest Global Usenet News Feed Exchange Point in the world.

ISP's and specialized News Providers can connect their Usenet News Feed Server(s) to the NextFeed ethernet infrastructure on a 100 Mbit/s, 1.000 Mbit/s or 10 Gbit/s port (in a Amsterdam datacenter) and exchange feeds directly with a whealth of other participants on sub-millisecond delay times, maximum bandwidth and with superb robustness.

Advantages of direct Nextfeed peering

Advantages of the NextFeed for participating ISP's and news providers include:

Disadvantages of alternatives

  • Exchanging news feeds over the Internet is normally much more expensive (charged per Mbit/s), slower and less robust;
  • Exchanging news feeds over a general public Internet Exchange introduces higher delays, puts havier loads on the BGP routers inbetween, is more difficult to monitor and manage, and requires you to have BGP4 peering with the other party before news peering is possible. Further it is more difficult to find interesting peers on an Internet Exchange;
  • Exchanging news feeds via a private peering requires both parties to be on the same location. Further this model does not scale.

Nextfeed Infrastructure

NextFeed is run on a seperate ethernet VLAN and dedicated ports on the NL-ix Internet Exchange infrastructure in Amsterdam, Holland.

Where can you connect?

NextFeed connections are available and practically all Amsterdam (The Netherlands) neutral datacenters.

Available port speeds

100 Mbit/s port are 100 Euro per month (250 Euro install). However, when NextFeed is used to receive or distribute full news feeds (so not text-only), 100 Mbit/s will not be enough. 1.000 MBit/s ports are 350 Euro per month (500 Euro install). 10 Gbit/s ports are 1.000 Euro per month (and 1.000 Euro install).

Parties already connected to the NL-ix Internet Exchange can get access to NextFeed for free on their existing port (which is then put in dot1.q VLAN trunking mode to receive the extra VLAN vor NextFeed).
